5 Fun Family Events for Family Day Long Weekend
Family Day 2020 is just around the corner, and Calgary is bursting at the seams with fun things to do with your loved ones. With winter activities and festivals galore, this Family Day weekend is guaranteed to be one for the books! Check out these fun activities happening around town;
- Bow Habitat Station Family Fishtival
February 15 from 10 am – 4 pm
Bow Habitat Station – 1440 17a St SE
There’s plenty to do both inside and out at the Bow Habitat Station to celebrate the long weekend! Join in the fun with free activities like snowshoeing, a magnetic ice fishing game, tic-tac-toe, a bean bag toss, trivia, a scavenger hunt, marshmallow roasting, a predator-pray game, fly-tying, casting practice and more. There will also be reduced admission ($5 + tax) to the Discovery Centre. This is the perfect weekend to get hooked on fishing.
- PJ Party & Yoga at The Central Library
February 17 from 11 am – 4 pm
Central Library – 800 3 Street SE
Get your coziest jammies on and head down to the Central Library for a PJ party that runs from 12 – 4 pm. There’ll be an all-day cartoon marathon with a breakfast cereal buffet, special storytimes, a video game tournament, magic, comedy, music and juggling performances and even some fun crafts! Kick-off your morning with a yoga class for the whole family that runs from 11 am – 12 pm.
- The 6th Annual XL103 Family Fun Skate
February 17 from 12 – 5 pm
Calgary Olympic Oval – 288 Collegiate Boulevard NW
The new indoor Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary is open and ready for families to hit the ice! Lace up your skates and try out the fastest ice in the world as you enjoy a playlist of music from the 70s and 80s. Don’t have your own helmet or skates? No problem – they can be rented at the Olympic Oval Skate Shop. When you’re done skating, sip hot chocolate, and snap a picture with mascots from The Costume Shoppe. Don’t forget to check out the photo booth and try your hand at giant games for the whole family. This event (including the parking) is totally free, but donations to Kids Cancer Care are graciously accepted.
Family Day at Greta Bar
February 17 from 12 – 8 pm

Calgary’s favourite gaming bar is opening its doors to minors for one day only! Bring the whole family to play over 50 arcade games including classics like Pac Man, Pong, Frogger and Street Fighter, and then try your hand at Skee-Ball, Air Hockey, Pop-A-Shot Basketball, and more. Don’t worry if you get hungry – there are tons of tasty treats (and drinks for grownups) on the menu!
- Family Fun Day at Eau Claire Market

The only thing better than an event full of family-friendly activities is a FREE one! Eau Claire Market will be hosting an afternoon of fun including visits from your favourite Sesame Street characters, live musical acts, juggling, magic, crafts, tattoos, balloon animals and more!
